Artist's Description
This piece depicts a hummingbird flying from the hand of the Buddha to whisper in his ear the secrets of the life. The hummingbird in many cultures symbolizes the magic of the present moment and of being alive. Buddha presents a gift of a dandelion which symbolizes the understanding of the magic of being alive, while a dragonfly rests on his other hand. Dragonflies in many cultures symbolize a change that brings an understanding of the deeper meaning of life.
About Janet McDonald
THE MAGIC IS IN THE MOMENT: “I paint Moments. The textured under-paintings and colours I use in my work illuminate the energy of the moments I paint. My mission as an artist is to remind us to allow the beautiful moments of our lives to wash over us. To me, this is where the magic of life resides.” Janet McDonald Nanaimo, BC based artist, Janet McDonald, works in acrylic and oils. She loves the buttery feel and blend-ability of oils to whip up a Latin or Hawaiian Dancer, and the brilliance of the acrylic colours and their quick-dry nature for wildlife. Whatever the subject matter, strong colour and light are consistent components of her unique style. Janet re-discovered her artistic talents in mid-life (now that’s a good crisis!)....

Thanks so much! It was a tough one because I used in many places a metalic copper acrylic on much of the Buddha and of course the highlights would change depending on the angle you were looking from. It was a bit like painting two paintings on top of each other. It was a new challenge!
